La dichiarazione che segue è basata sulle COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors e intende definire i rapporti tra strutture e funzioni più direttamente coinvolte nel processo editoriale.
Le decisioni e l’agire della casa editrice sono inoltre improntati ai principi e ai valori espressi nel codice etico della Scuola Normale Superiore (https://www.sns.it/sites/default/files/2021-05/codice etico.pdf).

Doveri dell’editore

L’editore seleziona i testi che pubblica sulla base della propria politica editoriale e dichiara eventuali fonti di finanziamento; promuove l’adozione delle migliori prassi internazionali e ne verifica l’applicazione; richiede pubblicazioni originali – redatte nel rispetto del diritto d’autore – che seguano alti standard nella cura editoriale dei testi.
Promuove e controlla l’utilizzo della peer review come metodo di selezione delle pubblicazioni, favorisce l’indipendenza della ricerca, condanna la violazione del copyright e il plagio, richiede contributi originali basati su dati rigorosi, impegnandosi a pubblicare le correzioni di eventuali errori nei testi pubblicati.
Segue con l’Associazione italiana editori l’evoluzione dell’editoria accademica, dialoga con il Ministero dell’Istruzione, dell’Università e della Ricerca, Anvur, Cun e Crui, si confronta con docenti e ricercatori della Scuola sui temi legati alla diffusione e valorizzazione della ricerca, anche nelle forme dell’open access.

Doveri degli organi editoriali

Gli organi delle Edizioni (Presidente, Comitato editoriale, Responsabile editoriale) garantiscono la correttezza dei sistemi utilizzati per valutare, accettare o respingere i testi sottoposti dagli autori e in particolare vigilano sul processo di peer review e sull’anonimato dei revisori, evitando ogni conflitto di interesse, discriminazione per genere, orientamento sessuale o religioso, convinzioni politiche, provenienza geografica.
Presidente e Comitato editoriale garantiscono la validità scientifica dei lavori pubblicati, nonché il rispetto della libertà di espressione e del diritto di replica. Qualora si riscontrino, in un testo pubblicato, dichiarazioni non veridiche, gravi errori, oppure si verifichino casi accertati di plagio o violazione del diritto d’autore, essi ne daranno tempestiva comunicazione all’autore e intraprenderanno le azioni necessarie a chiarire la questione. Se opportuno, l’editore potrà diffondere un erratum o ritirare il testo.
Il Responsabile editoriale ha il compito di informare gli autori sulle procedure della casa editrice, sui criteri e sulle norme redazionali cui devono attenersi.
Responsabile editoriale e redazione sono tenuti al rispetto delle disposizioni di legge in materia di diffamazione, violazione del copyright e plagio, e a non divulgare alcuna informazione sui manoscritti inviati se non agli autori stessi o a chi sia stato preventivamente autorizzato.
Il materiale inedito contenuto nei manoscritti sottoposti alla casa editrice non può essere usato per ricerche individuali senza il consenso scritto dell’autore.

Doveri dei revisori

Il revisore assiste l’editore nel processo di valutazione dei testi.
Il revisore è tenuto a rispettare i tempi previsti; a essere del tutto obiettivo nel proprio giudizio; ad argomentare in maniera chiara e documentata la propria valutazione; a segnalare eventuali casi di mancato riferimento alle fonti, di affermazioni non veritiere, di plagio o violazione del diritto d’autore.
È tenuto a rifiutarsi di valutare testi rispetto ai quali abbia conflitti di interesse di qualsiasi tipo.
Il revisore ha inoltre il compito di fornire agli autori, tramite commenti e suggerimenti, indicazioni utili al miglioramento del lavoro proposto, anche segnalando eventuali carenze bibliografiche o documentali.
I testi presi in esame per la valutazione devono essere trattati come documenti riservati: essi non possono essere divulgati o condivisi con altri soggetti, salvo autorizzazione del Comitato editoriale.

Doveri degli autori

L’autore garantisce che il testo sottoposto a valutazione sia originale e inedito, accettando le modalità di selezione e pubblicazione dell’editore e in particolare il processo di peer review.
Qualora il testo sia accettato, l’autore riconosce all’editore il diritto alla pubblicazione, sollevando l’editore da ogni eventuale danno o spesa; autorizza inoltre l’editore a farne uso in raccolte anche on line – rendendolo disponibile al pubblico anche mediante siti internet – e a disporne le utilizzazioni (comprese riproduzioni ed elaborazioni) a tali fini preordinate.
Salvo diverso accordo scritto con l’editore, l’autore si impegna – nel caso di pubblicazioni destinate alla circolazione commerciale – a non effettuare o consentire la traduzione e/o la pubblicazione del testo referato in altro contesto prima che siano trascorsi almeno 12 mesi dalla sua pubblicazione e, in ogni caso, a non effettuare o permettere la pubblicazione del testo nel formato editoriale. L’editore riconosce all’autore la possibilità di pubblicare nel sito web personale o nel repository istituzionale la versione post-print del proprio testo e renderla disponibile in modalità open access, nel rispetto della normativa vigente e di quanto stabilito nel contratto di edizione. La versione depositata deve riportare tutti i dettagli della pubblicazione e contenere gli opportuni link al sito dell’editore.
L’autore si impegna a dichiarare, contestualmente all’invio del testo per la valutazione, ogni possibile conflitto di interesse che possa aver influenzato il contenuto del manoscritto. Tutte le forme di sostegno finanziario al progetto devono essere indicate.
L’autore ha l’obbligo di citare esplicitamente le fonti dei contenuti riportati e ottenere le autorizzazioni necessarie alla pubblicazione di immagini, testi o altri contenuti già pubblicati secondo quanto stabilisce la legge sul diritto d’autore.
L’autore garantisce la veridicità dei dati presentati nel proprio lavoro e l’obiettività delle proprie interpretazioni. I dati relativi devono essere riportati con esattezza e in modo dettagliato per permettere ad altri di replicare l’indagine.
Devono figurare come autori, tutti coloro che hanno effettivamente partecipato alla stesura del testo, visto e approvato la versione definitiva dello stesso e che acconsentono alla pubblicazione. Devono essere esplicitamente indicati eventuali altri soggetti che abbiano fornito contributi sostanziali al lavoro presentato. Qualora l’autore riscontri errori significativi o inesattezze nel manoscritto pubblicato ha il dovere di comunicarlo tempestivamente all’editore e fornire gli opportuni errata corrige.

Accesso aperto e archiviazione digitale

Le Edizioni della Normale propongono nel proprio catalogo pubblicazioni in accesso aperto consultabili nella sezione Open Access (https://edizioni.sns.it/categoria-prodotto/catalogo/open-access/).
I volumi, salvo diverso accordo con gli autori, sono pubblicati con licenza Creative Commons By You Attribuzione 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). Per approfondimenti si veda anche Open Access Policy: licenze e copyright.
Una versione completa di ogni opera è depositata in formato elettronico (e quindi pubblicata) in almeno un archivio online seguendo i requisiti tecnici adeguati; tale archivio deve appoggiarsi ed essere controllato da un’istituzione o una società accademica, da un’agenzia governativa o da un’altra organizzazione affermata che abbia tra i suoi fini quello di consentire l’accesso aperto, la distribuzione senza restrizioni, l’interoperabilità e la conservazione a lungo termine. IRIS SNS è l’archivio istituzionale destinato a raccogliere, conservare e diffondere ad accesso aperto la produzione scientifica degli autori afferenti alla Scuola Normale Superiore.
In questo modo, le Edizioni vogliono affiancare al modello consolidato dell’editoria scientifica e accademica una nuova via per la disseminazione dei risultati della ricerca, che assicuri visibilità e diffusione ai testi pubblicati e ne faciliti il reperimento.

Tutela della privacy e protezione delle informazioni

In considerazione della specifica attività svolta, le Edizioni pongono un’attenzione particolare alla tutela dei dati personali e alla protezione delle informazioni.
Tutti i soggetti che operano all’interno della casa editrice, o che sono legati da contratti di collaborazione, si impegnano a proteggere le informazioni acquisite o elaborate in occasione dell’espletamento delle proprie funzioni nel rispetto, oltre che delle disposizioni di legge e regolamenti, anche delle relative procedure interne. Ciascuno deve mantenere riservate le informazioni apprese soprattutto se potenzialmente idonee, qualora divulgate, a recare pregiudizio patrimoniale o di immagine all’editore.
I dati personali veicolati attraverso il sito e-commerce delle Edizioni sono trattati nel rispetto della Legge sulla privacy (D. Lgs. n. 196/2003) e della Privacy Policy della Scuola Normale Superiore in ottemperanza al Regolamento europeo sulla privacy (2016/679).

Code of Ethics

The following statement is based on COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and intends to define the relationships between the structures and functions most directly involved in the editorial process. The decisions and actions of the publishing house are also based on the principles and values ​​expressed in the Code of Ethics of the Scuola Normale Superiore (https://www.sns.it/sites/default/files/2021-05/codice%20etico.pdf).

Duties of the Publisher

The Publisher selects the texts to be published on the basis of its editorial policy, and discloses any sources of financial support; encourages the adoption of international publishing best practices and verifies their use; requires original works, written in accordance with the highest standards in editing of texts and in compliance with Italian copyright law.
The Publisher promotes and controls the use of peer review as a method of publication selection; promotes research independence; condemns copyright infringement and plagiarism; requires original works based on rigorous data, committing to publish corrections of any errors in published texts.
In cooperation with the Associazione italiana editori (Italian Publishers Association), the Publisher follows the evolution of academic publishing, dialogues with the Ministry of Education, University and Research, ANVUR, CUN and CRUI, and discusses with teachers and researchers of the Scuola Normale Superiore on issues related to the dissemination and enhancement of research, also through Open Access.

Duties of the Editors

Editors (President, Editorial Board, Editor-in-Chief) ensure the fairness of the systems used to evaluate, accept or reject papers submitted by Authors, and in particular monitor the peer review process and the anonymity of the reviewers, avoiding any conflict of interest, discrimination by gender, sexual or religious orientation, political beliefs, or geographical origin.
The President and the Editorial Board ensure the scientific validity of published papers, as well as respect for freedom of expression and the right of reply. If untrue statements, serious errors, or established instances of plagiarism or copyright infringement are found in a published text, they will promptly notify the Author and take the necessary action to clarify the matter. If appropriate, the publisher may disseminate an Erratum or retract the text.
The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for informing Authors of the publishing house’s procedures, criteria, and editorial guidelines to which they must adhere.
The Editor-in-Chief and editorial staff are required to comply with the legal provisions on defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism, and not to divulge any information about submitted manuscripts except to the Authors themselves or to those who have been authorized in advance.
Unpublished material disclosed in manuscripts submitted to the publishing house may not be used for individual research without the written consent of the Author.

Duties of the Peer Reviewers

Reviewers assist the editor in the process of evaluating texts.
Reviewers should:
strictly adhere to the timelines stipulated for the completion of the review;
be completely objective in their reviews;
present their evaluations in a clear and documented manner;
report any instances of failure to refer to sources, untrue statements, plagiarism or copyright infringement.
They are required to refuse to evaluate texts with respect to which they have conflicts of interest of any kind.
Reviewers are also responsible for providing the Authors, through comments and suggestions, with useful indications for the improvement of the proposed work, including pointing out any bibliographical or documentary deficiencies.
The texts considered for evaluation must be treated as confidential documents: they may not be disclosed or shared with others unless authorized by the Editorial Board.

Duties of the Author

The Author guarantees that the text submitted for evaluation is original and unpublished, accepting the Publisher’s selection and publication methods and in particular the peer review process.
If the text is accepted, the Author recognizes the Publisher’s right to publication, exonerating the Publisher from any damage or expense; he/she furthermore authorizes the Publisher to make use of it in collections (including online), making it available to the public also through websites, and to arrange for its uses (including reproductions and elaborations) for the said preordained purposes.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing with the Publisher, the Author undertakes – in the case of publications intended for commercial circulation – not to carry out or allow the translation and/or publication of the peer-reviewed text in another context before at least 12 months have passed from its publication and, in any case, not to carry out or allow the publication of the text in the editorial format. The Publisher recognizes the Author’s right to publish the post-print version of his/her text on his/her personal website or in the institutional repository and make it available in Open Access mode, in compliance with current legislation and with the provisions of the publishing contract. The deposited version must report all the details of the publication and contain the appropriate links to the Publisher’s website.
The Author undertakes to declare, at the same time as sending the text for evaluation, any possible conflict of interest that may have influenced the content of the manuscript. All forms of financial support for the project must be disclosed.
The Author must properly acknowledge the sources of their work and obtain the necessary permits for the publication of images, texts or other contents already published in accordance with Italian copyright law.
The Author guarantees the truthfulness of the data presented in his/her work and the objectivity of his/her interpretations. The relevant data must be reported accurately and in detail to allow others to replicate the investigation.
All those who have actually participated in the drafting of the text, seen and approved the final version of the same and who consent to its publication must be listed as Authors. If other persons have significantly participated in certain stages of the research, their contribution must be explicitly acknowledged. If the Author becomes aware of any significant error or inaccuracy in the publication, s/he must promptly notify the Publisher and provide the appropriate errata corrige.

Open Access and Digital Archiving

The catalogue of the Edizioni della Normale includes open access publications, which can be consulted in the Open Access section (https://edizioni.sns.it/categoria-prodotto/catalogo/open-access/).
Unless otherwise agreed with the Authors, the works are published under the Creative Commons By You Attribution 4.0 license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). For further information, see also par. “Open Access Policy: licenses and copyright”.
A complete version of each work is deposited in electronic format (and therefore published) in at least one online archive following the appropriate technical requirements; this archive must be supported and controlled by an institution or an academic society, a government agency or another established organisation whose aims include allowing open access, unrestricted distribution, interoperability and long-term preservation. IRIS SNS is the institutional archive intended to collect, preserve and disseminate in open access the scientific production of authors affiliated with the Scuola Normale Superiore. The consolidated model of scientific and academic publishing is thus supported by the Edizioni with a new way to disseminate research results, which ensures visibility and circulation of published texts and facilitates their retrieval.

Privacy Policy and Information Protection

In consideration of the specific activity carried out, the Edizioni pays particular attention to the protection of personal data and the protection of information.
All individuals who work within the publishing house, or who are linked to it by contracts of collaboration, undertake to protect the information acquired or processed during the performance of their functions in compliance with the provisions of law and regulations, as well as the relevant internal procedures. Each individual must keep the information learned confidential, especially if potentially suitable, if disclosed, to cause financial or image damage to the Publisher.
The personal data conveyed through the Edizioni e-commerce site are processed pursuant to the Italian Privacy Law (Legislative Decree no. 196/2003, and its further amendments) and the Privacy Policy of the Scuola Normale Superiore in compliance with the European Regulation on privacy (2016/679).
